Overview:

Abstract: Various waxes have been used for the treatment of archaeological iron and still are frequently
applied in the Thüringisches Landesamt für Denkmalpflege und Archäologie.
The critical debate of the application of waxes as an impregnation agent is confronted with the
positive experimental reports from Weimar.
A description and characterization of the wax‐impregnation under atmospheric pressure or vacuum
is followed by considerations, how the varying effectiveness of both methods could be examined and
displayed, for example, with micrographs
